What is VLAN Tagging?
VLAN Tagging (Virtual LAN) is a technique that allows a physical network to be segmented into several separate logical networks. On fibre connections in Switzerland (notably via the Swisscom infrastructure), each operator uses a specific VLAN identifier to carry its internet traffic.
In practice, your router must “tag” (mark) network packets with the correct VLAN identifier for the connection to work.
Do I need VLAN Tagging?
Yes, if you are using your own router (not provided by MaxiConnect) on a fibre connection via the Swisscom infrastructure (FTTH).
No, if MaxiConnect has provided and configured your router — the configuration is already done.
