What is the OTO?
The OTO (Optical Termination Outlet) is the fibre optic socket installed in your home or business premises. It is the connection point between the public fibre network (Swisscom) and your private installation.
Each OTO has a unique identifier (OTO ID) that allows MaxiConnect and technicians to precisely identify your outlet within the network.
Where to find your OTO ID
On the device itself
The OTO ID is found on a label attached to the OTO device, which is typically installed:
- In the hallway or entrance area
- In a technical cupboard
- Near the letterbox (for apartment buildings)
- In the basement (technical room)
The device looks like a small white wall socket with a fibre or Swisscom logo.
OTO ID format
The identifier generally consists of letters and numbers, in the form:
CH-XXXXXX-XXXXX
or
XXXXXXXXXXXX (12 digits)
Visual examples
The label is often found on the back or side of the device. Look for the label “OTO-ID”, “ID” or “N°” followed by a series of characters.
Why does MaxiConnect need this ID?
When activating a new fibre connection, MaxiConnect communicates your OTO ID to Swisscom to activate the correct port in the network infrastructure. Without this identifier, activation is not possible.
Can’t find your OTO?
A few tips:
- Ask your property manager or landlord — the OTO is often in common areas
